Met Gala – 2017

Met Gala 2017 Best Dressed

Hi guys! May is going to be a month of high fashion what with the Met Gala held on May 1st and the two week long Cannes Film Festival from the 17th-28th. Exciting times ahead! Today I’m showing you the 10 best dressed ladies at the Met Gala 2017, that came dressed in theme and 10 more who were dressed more generically but cut a pretty picture anyway.

This year’s theme, for both the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute exhibition and Met Gala, is “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between,”. Rei Kawakubo will be the first living designer since Yves Saint Laurent in 1983 to be the sole subject of the Met’s big fashion night. She was in attendance dressed in her avant garde best (white moto jacket, pooffy black pants, signature straight bob with bangs and black sunglasses), but is it ironic that she did not make it to my list? 😛 Well keep scrolling to see who did!

Met Gala – 2017

Rihanna in a Comme des Garçons dress

Rihanna is just the queen of the Met gala, isn’t she? Slaying year after year, this time she came adorned in a Comme des Garçons piece. Love the top knot+bangs, the pink “draped” blush, the over the top outfit and the thigh high red tie up heels! Here she’s not part of the “top ten” list because I wanted to introduce the brand and the event to you so you can see why some made the cut and some don’t.

Top 10 Generically Best Dressed

These next ten ladies look bomb, but look like they could be at any event since they haven’t followed the dress code. But then again, breaking the dress code is probably the most (and easiest) way of dressing avant garde!

1. Mary J. Blige in La Perla

2. Leslie Mann in Chanel

3. Karlie Kloss in Carolina Herrera

4. Andrea Riseborough in Tom Ford

5. Allison Williams in Diane von Furstenberg

8. Taylor Hill in Carolina Herrera

9. Laura Dern in Gabriela Hearst

10. Emma Roberts in Diane von Furstenberg

Deepika Padukone in Tommy Hilfiger and Priyanka Chopra in Ralph Lauren

Special mention to our bollywood lovelies who represent us on such esteemed international platforms! They may not be the best of the best, but hey, they’re there, and I’m sure they will get better with time! By they I mean the hair-makeup-styling teams, not the divas themselves because they’re not the let downs here, the teams are. With Deepika, that gorgeous figure is laid to waste in that ill fitting/unflattering dress and with Priyanka, the makeup is a bit too steampunk-zombie. A better bust/back on the dress and some colour in the face could have saved them both. None the less, I’m very excited too see them evolve and come into their own in a global fashion way.

I hope you like this post! 🙂
